THOMASVILLE — Thomas County Central’s baseball team secured its first win of the season Friday night, utilizing 13 total hits to cruise by region opponent Warner Robins 15-0 in a mercy rule-shortened four-inning matchup.
The Yellow Jackets wasted no time in getting on the board first, with four straight knocks to start the game. After leadoff man Nick Herndon hit a triple on Central’s first at-bat of the game, Jackson NeSmith brought him in with a single for the early lead. Keyton Smith followed up a Doug Smith hit with a two-RBI double, giving Central a three-run cushion at the end of one.
After a scoreless second, the Yellow Jackets got back to work, batting through their entire order for five runs, partly aided by a three-RBI double from Jarrett Barwick.
In the fourth, Central put the contest away for good, with Brandon Slocomb and Hunter Humphries hitting a single and a double, respectively, to score four more. Herndon capped off Central’s first win of the year with his second hit of the game — a two-run home run over the right field fence, his second of the season.
Keyton Smith got all the run support he needed from the mound, but he did his part as well, allowing only four hits and no runs while striking out three over four innings pitched.
The Yellow Jackets will be looking for win No. 2 when they travel to Bainbridge for its second region game of the year on Tuesday.
