Square dancing on Friday nights

Free square dancing classes are offered every Friday at 7 p.m. at Roddenbery Library. Make your way to the library’s auditorium for classes for beginners or avid dancers who are interested in making a circle of friends while forming a square.

Alzheimer/dementia support group meets 

Magnolia Place of Cairo officials invite anyone who has a family member or friend who suffers from Alzheimer’s or dementia to their monthly support group meeting which is held the second Monday of each month from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to everyone regardless of whether you have a loved one at Magnolia Place. It provides support and resources for those who have loved ones who are struggling with these two diseases. For more information, call Brande at 377-6811.

Free tax assistance available

Library volunteers, Roy and Marie Murphy, will be providing free tax assistance again this year for seniors and low income citizens every Thursday from 10 a.m. until noon through April 13. Visit or call the library at (229) 377-3632 for an appointment.

Churches to hold joint services 

Faith Temple Church and New Vision Church will be holding joint services at 11 a.m., Sunday. The service will be held at the New Vision Church, 710 8th Ave, NW in Cairo. Bishop Frank Goins and Pastor Ambers Glenn Jr. will be delivering the message and everyone in the community is invited to attend this special event, according to the pastors.

Wolf Creek Trout Lilly Preserve open for tours

The Wolf Creek Trout Lilly Preserve is full of blooms and open for tours through the end of the month. Volunteers will be on hand each day for guided tours from 1 to 3:30 p.m. and self-guided tours can be taken along the marked trails. In addition to the trout lilies, visitors can also enjoy the colorful blooms of wild trilliums, twayblade orchids and many other native plants. In addition to leading tours, volunteers also will be making flyers available to visitors offering discounts for Whigham businesses including the Whigham Diner, L-Three Gifts, Hairtage, Gabby’s Rustic Designs and Truly Unique Ceramics and Gifts. Beulah M.B. Church to hold youth revival

Beulah M.B. Church is holding its annual Youth Revival Prayer Meeting Sunday and Monday and preaching services Feb. 28 through March 2. The Rev. Matthew Faulk will be preaching at the 7 p.m. services. Pastor Delise Cox and the congregation invite everyone to attend.

Theater fundraiser Saturday

Mark your calendar for the “Jeans and Jewels” fundraiser Saturday at the Zebulon Theater in Cairo. Doors open at 6 p.m. with cocktails served until 7. There will be a silent auction starting at 6:30 with bids accepted until 7:30. Plus, a live auction starting at 7:30. In addition, there will be raffles for a pair of 3/4 carat diamond earrings and a 9mm handgun with a box of ammo. All proceeds from the event will go toward renovations to the historic building and the purchase of a new popcorn machine.

Library board meeting changed

The Roddenbery Memorial Library’s Board of Trustees meeting has been changed to 3 p.m., Thursday in the Trustees Room. The public is welcome to attend. The next meeting will be at 1 p.m., Tuesday, March 21.

seats offered

The Grady County Health Department is offering free child passenger safety seats to financially eligible families courtesy of a mini-grant from the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Injury Prevention Program. The health department is working with the Cairo Fire Department to offer a program to show parents how to correctly install, use and remove child safety seats. Funding provided by the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety officials will be offering the child seats to those who meet the financial requirements and sign up for the program. Boy Scout golf tournament Saturday 

Whigham Boy Scout Troop 383 members are holding their 5th Annual Golf Tournament at the Tired Creek Golf Course in Cairo on Saturday. The tournament is the troop’s major fundraiser of the year and all area golfers are encouraged to enjoy the spring weather and come out and participate. The format is a four-person scramble with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Range balls are included in the entry fee along with a meal and snacks during and after the tournament. Free health screenings available

The Angels of Grace Community Wellness Center of Cairo is offering free health screenings to residents of Grady County and the surrounding areas. If you don’t know your cholesterol level or want to have your blood pressure checked, you can have these and several other screenings performed for free.
