THOMASVILLE — Beginning Monday, the City of Thomasville will resume repairing brick pavers on West Jackson Street from South Madison Street to Stevens Street. As a result, there will be some lane closures along West Jackson Street to facilitate repair work.

“We began working in this area earlier this month to repair the intersection of West Jackson Street and Stevens Street and five additional areas that were also identified,” Wayne Newsome, assistant city engineer, said. “The work we will begin next week is a continuation of this project and will involve a lane closure of the westbound lane. Inbound traffic will not be impacted, and the eastbound lane will remain open.”

During construction, businesses along this section of downtown Thomasville will remain open. Westbound traffic will be detoured onto Madison Street and then to West Jefferson Street while repairs are under way.

“The City of Thomasville recognizes the inconvenience this work poses to both the traveling public and businesses along this segment of West Jackson Street,” said Newsome. “While this construction will temporarily interrupt travel, it will not interrupt business.”

The work is expected to be completed by the end of Wednesday.
