NORMAN PARK, Ga. — Two suspects are in custody following a manhunt that caused a lockdown at Norman Park Elementary School.

An adult and a juvenile were taken into custody Thursday afternoon, according to Lt. Mike Murfin of the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office. Their identities have not been released, nor have the charges that will be filed against them. Murfin said the adult also has active arrest warrants in Florida.

Murfin said a Norman Park police officer saw a vehicle that was reported stolen in Florida. He executed a traffic stop, and when the car came to rest the two people in it jumped out and ran into the woods.

Colquitt County School Superintendent Doug Howell said the traffic stop was not in the immediate vicinity of Norman Park Elementary School, but it was close enough that the school was locked down as a precaution.

The lockdown began between 1 and 1:30 p.m. and was over in time for normal dismissal at 2:30 p.m., Howell said.
