Thomas University will hold auditions and interviews for a series of competitive scholarship for students in select activities from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, March 25. Students selected will receive scholarships beginning in in the fall of 2017 and must be new TU students.

“We realize that there are some outstanding students involved in the arts and business programs,” said Susan Backofen, TU vice president for enrollment management. “Being part of such programs is no easy task. It takes commitment, dedication, perseverance and determination. All of those are traits that also enable college students to succeed. We want these students at TU.”

Students who may compete must be involved in chorus, instrumental music, forensics/debate and theatre. Each scholarship is for up to $3,000 per year and is renewable. Scholarship recipients will be required to continue in these areas as Thomas University students.

Students competing for a chorus scholarship must present a musical piece of his or her choice that demonstrates vocal range. Scholarship recipients will perform as part of TU vocal groups.

ENACTUS (ENtrepreneurial ACTion for Others creates a better world for US All) is an international non-profit organization dedicated to inspiring students to improve the world through entrepreneurial action. These scholarship competitors must bring a copy of their résumés and a list of related activities and experiences. These students will be interviewed on an individual basis.

Students interested in instrumental music may compete for a Pep Band and Jazz Ensemble scholarship. TU is specifically interested in trumpet, trombone, saxophone, percussion, bass guitar and upright bass. Instrumentalists will perform a musical piece of their choice. Scholarship recipients will perform as part of TU music groups.

Students interested in forensics/debate will present a one-minute prepared monologue. They should bring of copy of their résumés and a list of related activities and experiences to the individual interviews. Scholarship recipients will represent TU in local and state competitions.

Theatre students interested in competing for this scholarship will present a one-minute prepared monologue. No costumes, props or set pieces are allowed. Competitors should bring a copy of the monologue along with their résumés and a list of related activities and experiences. Scholarship recipients will participate in TU theatre productions and assist with production preparation activities.
