Central’s girls could not get their second region win of the year, taking a 88-50 loss to the Demons on Friday night. The boys could not avenge their counterparts, as they were dealt a crushing 103-63 defeat.

Warner Robins set the tone for the girls’ game right from the start, jumping out to an early 6-0 lead. Central’s Janiah Ellis scored the first points of the game for the Yellow Jackets. She was responsible for a good chunk of her team’s scoring for the early part of the game, with six in the first.

Jade Guyton added her own contributions with a nice string of consecutive points for the Yellow Jackets late in the first, beginning with a bucket with 2 minutes left in the quarter. She followed that up with scores off an outlet pass and a steal from Ellis to help keep the deficit manageable at 22-14 headed into the second period.

From there, though, Warner Robins flexed its collective muscle, starting the second with a 6-1 run to take a 28-16 lead. Tia Brooks and Mahogany Walter combined for eight points in the quarter, but the Demons continued to extend their advantage to take a 43-25 lead at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets ultimately never came close to climbing back into the game, despite some late scores from their top scorers on the night, Ellis and Guyton. Each contributed 14 points each, while Ilyria Johns added seven.

The boys’ fate was very similar. The Demons began the second game of the night on a 9-0 run and never let up. Although Central inched a little bit closer midway through the first, only down 17-11 with 3:30 to go, Warner Robins quickly jumped right back ahead with a 13-1 run for a 30-18 second quarter lead.

For the rest of the game, the Yellow Jackets could not stop the barrage of scoring, as the Demons reached the century mark and left Central’s boys still searching for their first region win.

Earnest McCormick and BJ Jones led the Yellow Jacket effort with 16 and 13 points, respectively.

Central’s girls move to 10-15 overall and 1-6 in region play. The boys move to 0-7 in region play and 2-21 overall.

Central will be on the road today to face Harris County to close out its regular season.
