MOULTRIE, Ga. — Armed robbers struck on Monday night for a third time in six days, with two of the hold-ups occurring at convenience stores inside the city of Moultrie.
On Monday a trio of men concealing their faces hit at the One Stop #2 store at 1721 Tallokas Road. Police responded to a panic alarm at the convenience store at about 9:19 p.m.
“Three black males, faces covered, went in,” said Moultrie Police Department Maj. Tonero Bender. “One of them did have a firearm, demanded money and was given an undetermined amount of money.”
During the robbery one of the three stood at the door as a lookout and the other two went into the store.
The Monday night hold-up follows robberies on Thursday night of a driver near Sardis Church Road and the previous night at U.S. Food Mart at the intersection of South Main Street and 31st Avenue Southeast.
Juan Paralta, of the 300 block of Captain Gay Road, told Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputies that two men approached his car as he was stopped for a stop sign at the intersection of Cherry Avenue and Willow Drive.
Paralta, who reported the robbery at about 8:35 p.m. Thursday, said one man ran up to the car holding a gun, followed by a second armed man who opened his car door and struck him in the head.
Paralta suffered no serious injuries, but the pair stole his wallet.
At U.S. Food Mart two males approached an employee taking out the garbage Wednesday night and forced him back inside the store at gunpoint.
One stood at the door while the second forced the clerk to hand over the cash from the register.
Law enforcement officials said they have made no connections between any of the robberies. Following a rash of robberies at stores last year the Georgia State Patrol joined local law enforcement to hold road checks on four successive weekends. Officers seized drugs and guns and made arrests on those charges, as well as making arrests of individuals who came through for whom there were outstanding arrest warrants.
Bender said he could not say whether similar measures are being considered at this time.
“It’s still under investigation,” Bender said. “We’re keeping all of our investigative options open. We’re communicating with other investigative agencies, whether it’s local or multijurisdictional.”
Anyone with information can call Moultrie police at (229) 890-5500 or the Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office at (229) 616-7430.
Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Murfin said that investigators there have found no connections between the robberies inside and outside the city.
“I don’t have any information that would make me think they’re related,” Murphin said.
