Six local standouts earn all-state football honors

Six local football players — three from Hamilton County, two from Lafayette and one from Suwannee — were named to all-state teams for the 2016 season.
Hamilton County – 1A
Senior defensive lineman Fabian Reid was named second-team all-state. He recorded 56 tackles, five sacks, and helped the Trojans win their final three regular season games to advance to the state playoffs.
Sophomore defensive end/linebacker Melvin Brown recorded 83 tackles and three sacks to earn honorable mention honors.
Junior defensive back Javiel Jones made 35 tackles and had four interceptions. He was also an honorable mention.
Lafayette – 1A
Senior offensive lineman Julio Castillo was named second-team all-state. The University of Central Florida commit helped the Hornets put up some big numbers on offense. LHS averaged 33 points per game and more than 300 yards of offense per contest.
Senior linebacker Ryan Koon led the Hornets with 113 tackles. He received all-state honorable mention.
Suwannee – 5A
A strong senior season earned quarterback Steven Anderson a spot on the all-state 5A team as an honorable mention.
Anderson scored 20 total touchdowns, even after missing two games with an injury.
He averaged 100 yards rushing per game and threw for nine touchdowns with one interception.
