Thomas commissioners address ’17 in planning session

THOMASVILLE — Thomas County commissioners met Tuesday morning to take a look back and a look forward.
The planning session at the historic Thomas County Courthouse included discussions that ranged from solar panels to a shooting range.
County government at the end of 2016 saw a “modest improvement” over 2015, Mike Stephenson, county manager, told commissioners.
Before delving into 2017 project planning, commissioners pointed out 2016 accomplishments:
• Jail-Justice Center expansion completed
• Red Hills Business Park completed
• New E-911 Center completed
• Radio system upgraded completely to digital
• Engineering work began on Phase I of South Pinetree Boulevard improvements
• Shooting range studies completed
• Resurfacing of County Line, Fredonia, Gatlin Creek, Old Bee Line and Griffin roads
• Georgia Forestry Commission parking lot project
• Airport Road bridge repaired
• Stewart Road collection site upgraded
• Solar facility moratorium instituted
2017 upcoming projects:
• New UGA Extension Service offices
• Shooting range construction to begin
• Patton-Coolidge Road collection site
• Dillon Road collection site to be upgraded
• Begin construction on Phase I of South Pinetree Boulevard work
• Establish service center at the Hill Building
