CAIRO — A remembrance event for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be held in Cairo on Monday.
The event will kickoff with a parade at 11 a.m. Noni Brown will be the grand marshal.
Brown is the director of social services for the Grady County Board of Education and co-founder of Saving Grace of Georgia, Inc.
The parade will begin at Roddenbery Memorial Library, go through downtown Cairo, and then to Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. The parade will end at Holder Park.
Among the expected 60 units, a float judging contest also will be conducted.
At noon, a program will be held at Holder Park and a community lunch will follow.
Brown will speak at the program.
This year’s theme is “The Time Is Always Right To Do What Is Right.”
T-shirts for the event are being sold. Funds raised will go toward a scholarship to be given out to a Cairo High School student at honor’s night in April.
The annual parade and program is hosted by the MLK Collaborative of Grady County.
