- Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Bob Butch and Chris Burrell process paperwork Friday morning related to a shooting case that happened late Friday at a Southside Milledgeville residence. The case remains under investigation.
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — A 37-year Milledgeville tattoo artist critically wounded in a shooting late Thursday remained hospitalized in Macon on Friday, while local authorities continue their investigation.
As of Friday morning no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting that happened in the yard of the victim’s residence on Thompson Circle in Milledgeville.
Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Bob Butch and Chris Burrell processed the crime scene until 3 a.m. They returned to the office later that morning.
“We took photographs and we took measurements of the crime scene,” Butch told The Union-Recorder during an interview Friday morning. “And we collected some shell casings.”
Butch said the investigation was ongoing and that he and Burrell were planning to interview some people about the shooting later in the day.
The victim was identified as Ahmad Rashad King, according to incident reports filed by Deputies Oscar Garcia and Ashley Brown.
Authorities believe King was shot more than once.
The victim, who reportedly works as a tattoo artist, was discovered lying on the front porch of a residence on S.E. Vinson Highway, according to reports.
Deputies Garcia and Brown responded to that address in reference to a gunshot victim.
Deputies talked with the resident, as well as the victim.
Garcia said in his report that he saw a large amount of blood on the porch and around King. The victim had his dogs with him, which prevented deputies from being able to talk or assist him in anyway.
Milledgeville Police Department K-9 Officer Linc Boyer later arrived and was able to lead the dogs off by leashes so the victim could receive medical attention, Garcia said in his report. Trooper Cpl. Marc Riley of the Georgia State Patrol post in Milledgeville also responded to the call to render assistance.
King later told deputies that he had been shot in the legs.
Firefighters/first responders with Baldwin County Fire Rescue and personnel with the ORMC Grady Emergency Medical Services were later called to the scene to treat King. He later was taken by ambulance to a Macon area hospital.
Detectives were hoping to interview King later to see what he could tell them about the shooting.
Deputies talked with another neighbor near where the victim was found. A check of the contents of the metal case revealed King’s tattoo equipment.
Several spent shell casings fired from a handgun later were found by deputies and subsequently turned over to detectives working the case.
