CAIRO — A shooting in Cairo on Saturday resulted in the death of a Whigham man, and the suspect remains at large. 

Elijah Denzel Smith, 25, of Collins Road, has been identified as the victim of the incident, which occurred on 7th Street, according to authorities.

The suspect, Nicholas Lequinte Perry, 20, of Cairo, has been issued arrest warrants by both the Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Cairo Police Department, according to GBI Region 9 Special Agent in Charge Jamy Steinberg.  

The warrants issued are for the murder of Smith and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.  

Agents from both law enforcement entities are interviewing witnesses. 

An autopsy is set to be performed at the GBI crime lab in Macon early this week.
