THOMASVILLE — A wood-frame, one-story Lake Riverside residence was destroyed by an early-morning blaze on New Year’s Day while the homeowners were away for the holiday.

The 135 Spiral Road fire was discovered by a neighbor, who called 911 at 6:24 a.m.

“It obviously had been burning for a long time. The entire roof was gone. The only thing standing was the four walls,” Chris Jones, Thomas County fire chief, said.

Said Don Allen, state fire marshal, “The fire started in the living room. We do not know the cause.”

Eight fire trucks and two tankers responded from Lake Riverside, Ochlocknee, Northside and Coolidge fire stations.
