THOMASVILLE — An arrest resulting from a stolen vehicle was one of many reported burglaries and entering autos during the week of Christmas.
Alex Lorenzo Jackson Jr., 26, 425 E Calhoun St., was arrested and charged with one count of theft by taking of a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
According to Capt. Maurice Holmes, Thomasville Police Department Criminal Investigations Division commander, Jackson was arrested and the vehicle was recovered two days after the incident was reported on Dec. 22.
Holmes added there has been a recent spike in burglaries and entering autos.
For the week of Dec. 20-27, a total of six burglaries were reported. The same week, a total of five entering autos was reported.
Holmes added that in each incident, significant property was taken. A 75-inch TV was stolen on Christmas Day, according to Holmes.
“A lot of thefts have occurred over the last two weeks,” he said.
Over the holiday period, staff and patrols were increased in high volume districts, Holmes added.
“We just ask for people to be vigilant,” Holmes said, encouraging residents to be aware and report any incidents.
