THOMASVILLE — A 27-year-old Thomasville man is charged with simple battery on a police officer after he struck an officer on the face with his head, according to a Thomasville Police Department incident report.
Police responded to 607 E. Washington St. at 3:14 a.m. Friday to what had been reported as a vehicle collision with injuries. Thomas County dispatch relayed that someone had been struck by a vehicle and remained under it.
William Parsons Chubb, of the East Washington address, was found lying outside the vehicle with one leg in the vehicle and one under it. A woman identified herself as the driver.
The report says Chubb exhibited “slurred speech and an odor of alcoholic beverage.”
The woman told police Chubb called her for a ride. Chubb told police that when she took him home, the two argued and as he got out of the vehicle, she shoved him out. He said the woman backed up, striking his leg with the vehicle. The woman denied moving the vehicle.
Although Chubb said he was struck in the position he was found, no injuries consistent with his claim were found, the report shows.
The woman said Chubb grabbed her by the hair. Police found a mark on the right side of the woman’s head behind her ear.
Aware of a history of domestic violence between Chubb and the woman, Chubb was charged with domestic violence under the Family Violence Act.
According to the report, Chubb denied treatment and began walking away. As an attempt was made to handcuff the suspect, he became aggressive and was taken to the ground. After being handcuffed, Chubb began kicking and continued to resist.
The report shows Chubb was restrained. In a patrol car en route to the Thomas County Jail, he struck the vehicle’s center divider with his head and kicked a door.
At one point, he struck an officer’s face with his head. He attempted to bite another officer.
The suspect was placed in a restraint chair at the jail, taken into intake and booked. In addition to domestic violence and battery on a peace officer offenses, Chubb is charged with obstructing or hindering law enforcement.
He remained in jail early Friday afternoon awaiting arraignment.
