MOULTRIE, Ga. — A Moultrie man who had been released under house arrest while awaiting sentencing in a March 2015 slaying was back in jail on Wednesday.

Police say that Kalvin Tyrone Suggs violated terms of the court order under which he had been released in August. A Colquitt County Superior Court judge allowed the release the day Suggs entered a guilty plea to a manslaughter charge.

Suggs, 27, 603 First St. S.W., was indicted in the shooting death of Tony Harrison and was indicted by grand jurors on charges of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Those charges were dismissed as part of a plea arrangement, as well as charges from a 2014 case in which Suggs was indicted on charges of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Harrison, 22, was shot in the Sunset Plaza parking lot outside a nightclub at about 1:30 a.m. on March 1, 2015. At least three men reportedly exchanged gunfire that morning. Bullets struck several cars but no bystanders were injured.

At the time of Suggs’ arrest the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, which was the lead police agency in the slaying probe, said that Suggs and Harrison had been involved in an altercation that led to the shooting.

Suggs faces a sentence of up to 10 years on the involuntary manslaughter charge.

Suggs previously served two and a half years of a three-year sentence handed down in April 2010 on a conviction for possession of marijuana with intent, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was released in February 2013.

At the time he also was sentenced on charges of possession of cocaine and theft by receiving stolen property in a separate case.
