Members of the Thomasville Garden Club are busily preparing for their annual holiday decorating seminars, Fun, Food Flowers, set for Tuesday, Nov. 8. Two events are planned with the programs for each event slightly different. “We always have such a big crowd for our luncheon that four years ago, we added a Wine and Cheese event so that folks who work or who couldn’t come to the luncheon could participate,” said Gale Milton, president of the Thomasville Garden Club Council. “It was a huge hit so we continue with two events.”
Guests to the luncheon can expect to get ideas for holiday decorating, with a focus on Thanksgiving centerpieces demonstrated by Jimmy Singletary. The doors to the Garden Center will open Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. so that guests can shop the various wares offered by club members, including a country store, treasures table and plant sale. The lunch and lecture demonstration starts promptly at noon so that those who work can be through in an hour. The luncheon is chaired by Eddie Reichert of Killarney Queen Club.
Wine and Cheese guests can expect a Mexican fiesta and decorating ideas for Christmas, with Jimmy Singletary showing past creations and demonstrating new ideas. Singletary will be joined by designer Lee Cox, whose expertise is in aesthetic design, tablescapes and vignettes.
“We will have fun with the Mexican theme but will focus on Christmas decorating ideas,” said Pam Wright, co-chair with Carey Sewell. The Wine and Cheese will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the program starting at 6 p.m.
Tickets are $15 for each event and are available through the Visitors Center, located in the Auditorium building downtown at Jackson and Crawford streets. Phone orders using a credit card also will be taken. Garden Club presidents also have tickets.
The Thomasville Garden Club, Inc. consists of four clubs: Briarcliff, Lady Banks, Killarney Queen and Rambler Rose. Proceeds from the Fun, Food and Flowers events will be used to support the operations of the Garden Center and the programs of the club, including the annual Flower Show, weekly hospice flowers arrangements, Arbor Day and other community events.
