- The Colquitt County basketball team kicked off the ‘cheer season’ by helping clean up after the roof remodel at the Moultrie Cheer and Toy Shop in September. They also helped move scooters into their distribution areas. Kling says the basketball team was ‘an absolute blessing.’ Pictured from left and front to back are Trent Roberts, Hunter Peacock, Quentin Dopson, Tyrese King, Jy ‘July’ Andrews, Andy Harden, DaNas Andrews, Leamon Madison, and Nazziare Thompson.
MOULTRIE, Ga. — The Moultrie Cheer and Toy Shop, located at 589 Industrial Drive, will have a social worker work day on Friday, Oct. 7, and will be taking donations from those who wish to give to the estimated 2,400-plus children in the community this Christmas.
Cheer and Toy Shop director Angie Kling says that things have been going very well with the addition of a new roof to the new location and with volunteer work from the Colquitt County basketball team and United Way, but that new and used toys are still sorely needed.
“The used toys section was completely gone the first day of distribution last year,” said Kling.
Sign up forms to receive toys from the Cheer and Toy Shop are due Friday, Oct. 7. Those who turn in their forms after the due date will be put on a waiting list. Kling says they will have a better estimate of the children needing to be served after receiving the forms, but said there can never be too many toys given.
“We’re not turning anything away,” said Kling.
She says even if one thinks their used toys aren’t “nice enough” that she and her team go through all of the toys and find they can repair many or use them for parts to other toys. Anything given is used and greatly appreciated, she said, and used bikes are also encouraged.
The Cheer and Toy shop will also have a social worker work day in November, but anyone wishing to donate between work days can contact a social worker within the Colquitt County School System by calling one of the county’s elementary schools to make arrangements to meet at the Cheer and Toy Shop.
Distribution for the Cheer and Toy Shop will take place on Tuesday, Dec. 13.
