MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. — The Bulldogs of Georgia Military College Prep School (1-1) will try to kick-start a win streak as they take on the visiting Fulton Leadership Academy Gryphons (0-2) Friday night on Davenport Field.

The Week 3 matchup will be GMC Prep’s first taste of home action in 2016, and head coach Steven Simpson said his team is looking forward to playing in front of a friendly crowd.

“Playing in front of the home crowd is always great,” said Simpson. “It is always great to play in front of a large crowd that is in your corner.”

The Bulldogs brought home a 41-20 victory at the expense of Wheeler County last week thanks in part to the stellar play of U-R Athlete of the Week nominee Alex Easley. The senior running back tallied 133 yards on only five carries with two rushing touchdowns and got the Dogs out in front from the start thanks to a touchdown return on the opening kickoff.

Fulton Leadership Academy is new to varsity football this year and has yet to score any points in its inaugural campaign. The Gryphons have been outscored 75-0 in 2016 including a 28-0 loss to Providence Christian Academy last week. Fulton has good athletic ability, according to Simpson, and keeping the Gryphons contained in open space will be key to GMC Prep securing its second victory on the season.

Simpson has been preaching that his team needs to improve its tackling in order to compete week in and week out. The defensive players performed well in that area in last week’s win, but the head coach said the Dogs need to keep it up and progress in other aspects to continue the momentum.

“We have to continue to improve on our perimeter blocking on offense and tackling on defense. The kicking game is also an area in need.”

Kickoff between GMC Prep and Fulton Leadership Academy is set for 7:30 p.m.
