Body found after house fire

TIFTON, Ga. — Local authorities located a body late Thursday morning inside a house on 14th Street following a fire.

According to Lt. Lee Dunston, with the Criminal Investigations Division at the Tifton Police Department, at approximately 11:54 a.m., Tifton police officers and Tifton Fire Department personnel responded to a house fire on West 14th Street. They were told that a man with limited mobility could be in the house.

During the response, firefighters located a body inside the residence.

Dunston said a state arson investigator was called by the fire department, and the TPD requested assistance with the scene from the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

According to Dunston, officials have not determined the cause of the fire, nor the manner of death. Also, immediate, positive identification was not possible due to the condition of the body, which was sent for an autopsy.
