“The Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics is looking forward to Dr. Reed joining our faculty as an assistant professor. Her extensive obstetrics and gynecology experience coupled with her involvement in local, regional and national committees will bring a new perspective to our department. Our residents, the next generation of obstetricians and gynecologists, will benefit greatly from her experience,” said Dr. Ira Horowitz, chairman of the Emory Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics.

After finishing her residency at the Medical College of Georgia in 1991 as Chief Resident of the Year, Reed came to Thomasville to begin her private practice, joining the women’s health group of Muller & Reynolds, which later evolved to be the Shaw Center for Women’s Health. Her work in the community for the past 25 years with local patients was supplemented by regional, state and national work with educational, healthcare and health policy organizations.

Reed has served as the president of the Georgia OB/GYN Society, president of the Medical Association of Georgia, delegate to the American Medical Association, United Healthcare Women’s Health Advisory Board member, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) District IV chairman and delegate to the CMS (Medicare) Relative Value Committee, in addition to her work on many operational committees and grand rounds presentations for John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. Her educational commitments included serving as the chairman of the Board of Directors for Southwest Georgia Technical College, board member for the Technical College System of Georgia and for the Georgia State Board of Education, and clinical associate professor for the Florida State Medical School.

Perry Mustian, president and CEO of Archbold Medical Center, said, “Although we will miss Dr. Reed and the outstanding level of care she provided her patients for over two decades, we are happy for her as she pursues new interests that she’s excited about, and wish her success for many years to come.”

Dr. Rob Stubley, president of the Shaw Center, said, “We are losing a valued team member, but the medical students and young physicians who are residents at Emory will greatly benefit from the opportunity to train with such a skilled surgeon as Dr. Reed. Her 25 years of experience with both wellness and complex gynecology patients in our rural Georgia community will add much needed, real-world insights in the training of the next generation of physicians.”

Reed added, “The Emory opportunity will be an exciting new chapter in my journey as a physician and is a perfect fit for my interests, experience, and skills. It blends advocacy, teaching, mentoring and some clinical time. The move to Atlanta will also allow me to be closer to my family. While I am happy for myself and my family, I feel sad that I’ll be leaving the practice where I’ve spent the better portion of my professional career and where I have developed and nurtured deep and significant relationships with both patients and colleagues. Having the assurance that the Shaw team will be here to continue to take great care of our patients is a blessing.”
