Mary Gail Stringer, 62, of Albany, died May 31, 2016, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mathews Funeral Home. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, June 11, 2016, at 10 a.m. at the family plot in Laurel Hill Cemetery in Thomasville. Gail was a native of Jacksonville, Florida, and was born to the Late Lyman and Mary Mardre Goodman. Gail grew up in Thomasville and Albany and as a young girl was a ballet dancer. She was a 1971 graduate of Westover High School and attended Albany Junior College. Gail was a former member of the Junior League of Albany and was employed in the medical field for many years. Gail loved her grandchildren, decorating and was a fund-raising volunteer for St. Jude’s Hospital for Children. Survivors include her husband, John Stringer, of Albany; daughter, Mary “Leah” Dekreek and her husband, B.J., of Sandy Springs; two granddaughters, Mary Ellen (Ella) Dekreek and Emery Corinne Dekreek; a stepdaughter, Amanda Stewart and her husband, Roger, of Marietta; a stepgrandson, Landon Stewart; a stepgranddaughter, Avery Stewart; and a nephew, Tommy M. Goodwin Jr., of Lee County. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Sara Goodwin Varnell; and her brother, Tommy Melvin Goodwin.
