Margaret McCray Hill

Mother Margaret McCray Hill was born in Orlando, Florida, to the late John and Carrie McCray. She was their only daughter and was preceded in death by her three brothers. She was married for 62 years to the late Deacon Lester Hall Jr. and to that union bore seven children, two of whom preceded her in death. Mother Hall was a member of Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church for many years, where she was committed to the Usher Board and served as secretary in the Usher Union. Her love of children led her to teach Sunday School, where she encouraged youth to participate in church programs and during Easter and Christmas. She worked at Joseph Campbell and Ithaca for many years before retiring. She was a multi-talented woman with a strong work ethic, a huge heart and a joy for life. No matter what obstacles seemed to confront her, past or present, she endured with her faith. Her memories are forever cherished in the lives of her remaining children, Gwen Robins, of Covington, Peggy (the Rev. Renard Harden), of Kathleen, Dorothy Borden, of Thomasville, Arthur (Mamie Hall), of Climax, Betty (Eric Strawbridge), of Jeffersonville, Indiana; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Vivian McCray Dumfries, of Virginia, Virginia Lane, of Miami, Florida, Margaree Mills, of Pensacola, Florida, Mary Koroma, of New Castle, Delaware, Vonzie Mills (Gloria), of Thomasville, Clisby Mills (Helen), of Whigham, Tommie Mills (Dorothy), of Whigham; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchidren; and a host of nieces and nephews. After a strong fight and a joyous life, Mother Hall departed on May 26, 2016, with family and friends at her bed. Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 442 Piney Grove Road, Whigham, with the Rev. Harry Mitchell officiating. Flowerbearers are East Bond Usher Union. Pallbearers are Piney Grove Church deacons. Interment is at Crestview Cemetery, Cairo. — Williford’s Funeral Home
