James Harold ‘Boo’ Smith

Services for James Harold “Boo” Smith, of Boston, are at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Summerhill Baptist Church, where he was a member. The Rev. Tim Phillips and the Rev. Mitch Clements will officiate, and interment will follow at Boston City Cemetery. Active Pallbearers will be Jay Smith, Jake Smith, Justin Thomas, Jonathan Morrison, David Brooks and Billy Smith. Honorary pallbearers are Reese Brookerd, Gary Highsmith and Randy Cumbest. Mr. Smith died Wednesday, June 1, 2016, at his residence. Born April 7, 1932, in Boston, he was a son of the late James Lewis Smith and Carmel Hurst Smith. On March 27, 1952, in Barwick, he married Sylvia Cumbest Smith. She preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 2014. Before retirement, he worked for Georgia Northern Railroad, Atlantic Coastline Railroad and Seaboard Coastline as a clerk in the yard office. Mr. Smith was a cabinet maker and electrician, but his true pride and joy was owning James Smith Farms. Survivors include his son, James Harold (Jimmy) Smith Jr. and wife, Nancy Carter Smith, of Boston; daughter, Christie Deann Smith Thomas, of Boston; grandchildren, Mandy Lynn Thomas Morrison (Jonathan,) of Maryville, Tennessee; Natalie Thomas Brooks (David), of Thomasville; Justin Luke Thomas, of Thomasville, James H. (Jay) Smith III, (Amy Banks Smith), of Boston; great-grandchildren, James H. (Jake) Smith IV, of Boston, Jackson Colt Morrison and Benjamin Luke Morrison, of Maryville, Tennessee; McKenzie Lark Brooks, Victoria Ann Brooks, Anna Renee Brooks and Hadley Kate Brooks, all of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Melody Lynn Smith; sisters, Melba Smith Cochran, Ruth Smith Ryan; and a brother, Charles Smith. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
