Fred Hadley

Services for Fred Hadley, 72, 217 S. College St., are at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Disciples of Jesus Ministries, with Senior Pastors Denny and Chandra Blake and the Rev. Charlie Dunbar III officiating. Interment is at Mitchell Cemetery, Metcalfe. Active pallbearers are Alonzo Jackson, John Young, Charlie Davis, Eddie Hadley, Melvin Jackson, Calvin Hadley, Eddie Coleman and Clint Brown. Mr. Hadley was called to his heavenly home on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital. A Metcalfe native, he was born Feb. 14, 1944, a son of the late Willie Hadley and Victoria Carr Hadley. He joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the late Rev. Albert Sanders, where he was a faithful member. Mr. Hadley spent his entire life in Thomas County, where he attended New Union High School. He was employed by Sunnyland Inc. until his health began to fail. Fred leaves to cherish his memory four brothers, Tommy Hadley, of Miami, Florida, Carlton Hadley Sr., of Atlanta, John Henry Hadley and Amos Hadley, both of Thomasville; two sisters, Aretha Black, of Tallahassee, Florida, Margaret Davis, Thomasville; and sister-in-law, Julia Hadley, of Thomasville. In his later years, he was united in marriage to Virgil McGriff and from this union he leaves to cherish six stepchildren, Benji Smith, of Seattle, Washington, Latonya Wilkins, of Columbia, South Carolina, Shari Roberts, Marion McGriff, Michelle McGriff and Phoebe McGriff, all of Atlanta; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Victoria Hadley; two brothers, Willie Hall, Ira Hadley; and four sisters, Amanda Moody, Gloria Coleman, Edith Robinson and Mary Jackson. Remains will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends after the service at the Disciples of Jesus Ministries annex. Relatives and friends are asked to meet at 217 S. College St. at 1 p.m. for the processional. Visitation is at the funeral home on Friday, June 4, 2016, from 1 to 8 p.m. — Grooms Funeral Home
