MOULTRIE, Ga. — Emergency workers investigating a Sunday morning house fire in which at least five people were confirmed dead were examining the remains of the residence into the evening.

At 6 p.m. Sunday, Colquitt County Coroner Verlyn Brock said that bodies were still being removed from the 505 Rossman Dairy Road home. No identities of the victims had been confirmed as of that time.

“It just got cooled down not too long ago where it got to the point where we could go in,” he said. “We’ve got some tentative IDs, but nothing confirmed yet.”

Brock, who was called to the scene at 9:20 a.m., said that the agencies participating in the investigation include a fire marshal with the Georgia Office of Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office.

“It’s still under full investigation,” he said of the scene of the destroyed wood-frame house.
