Ruth Turner Furney

Ruth Turner Furey, 89, a retired educator and homemaker, passed away on March 29, 2016. A native of Cross City, Florida, Mrs. Furey had lived in Tallahassee, Florida, since 1994. Previously, she had resided in South Georgia for 60 years. She retired from the State of Georgia after a long career in public education. She taught business education at several high schools and retired from Valdosta Technical College (now Wiregrass Georgia Technical College), where she was an instructor in business and office technology. In her pursuit of lifelong learning, Mrs. Furey took numerous courses of study. She volunteered in administrative office workat Capital Regional Medical Center in Tallahassee, worked as a docent at Maclay Gardens State Park and worked in the local office of the American Cancer Society. Survivors are her husband of 35 years, Robert Joseph Furey, Tallahassee, Florida; daughter, Karla Maria Goodson, Tallahassee, Florida; son, Joseph Anthony Bono and daughter-in-law Nancy Hahn Bono, Windermere, Florida; two nieces, Shannon Turner, Valdosta, and Nancy Turner Gandy, Atlanta; great-niece, Jenna Lasseter Carroll (Jake), Atlanta; great-nephew, Landon Turner Lasseter, Grenada, West Indies; and stepsons John Furey, Vicksburg, Mississippi, and Daniel Furey, Valdosta, and stepdaughter Margaret Furey Carter, St. Simons Island. Mrs. Furey was predeceased by her parents, Ervin Rogers Turner and Mildred Bracey Turner; brother and sister-in-law, William Bracey Turner and Ruby Jones Turner; nephew, William Bracey Turner, Jr., stepson, Robert Francis Furey; and son-in-law, E. Walter Terrie, Ph.D. Graveside services will be at 11 am on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at Rosewood Cemetery in Barwick.
