Services for Mrs. Mildred Cheatham Smith will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Greater New Corinth Missionary Baptist Church, 216 Third St. S.W., Cairo. The Rev. Morris Evans, pastor, and the Rev. Sylvester Williams will officiate. Interment is at Pelham Memorial Gardens, Old Pelham Road, Pelham. Mrs. Mildred Cheatham Smith was born Oct. 16, 1940, to the late Jack and Ardella Cheatham Sr. in Grady County. She attended the Mitchell County School System, Pelham. In 2014, Mrs. Smith retired from the Grady County Board of Education, Northside Elementary School, where she truly enjoyed working with the children. She was a member of The Greater New Corinth Missionary Baptist Church in Cairo, where she served her church faithfully until her health failed. Mrs. Smith was also a member of Dorothy Edwards Chapter #36, Order of the Eastern Star (OES). Mrs. Smith was a very outgoing and fun person who really enjoyed life. She met a special friend, the late Frederick Smith Jr., and their friendship blossomed into love and joined in holy matrimony. On March 19, 2016, she transitioned to be with the Lord. Honorary pallbearers are Ezekiel Lodge #71 and Thomasville Masonic District #10. Active pallbearers are nephews, family and friends. Survivors are Cedric (Julene) Smith Sr., son, Cairo; Chriseen M. (Bernard) Johnson, daughter, Cairo; Bernard Johnson II, grandson, Gainesville, Florida, Corey Smith, grandson, Cairo; Kelsey Smith, granddaughter, Valdosta, Kyara Smith, granddaughter, Cairo; Cedric Smith Jr., grandson, Cairo; Susie L. Cheatham, sister, Cleveland, Ohio, Mary L. (Willie) Dupree, sister, Tampa, Florida, Lucille (James) Williams, sister, Camilla, Deloris A. Oni, sister, Atlanta, Gladys L. Gore, sister, Atlanta, Evelyn C. Pless, sister, Atlanta; Timothy Barnes, adopted brother; E.W. Johns, brother-in-law, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Alton (Dorothy) Smith, brother-in-law, Cairo; Mary K. Stovall, sister-in-law, Cairo; Thomas Williams, special friend, Baconton; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
