Cairo head coach Ron Best, left, goes to the mound to talk to starter Emerson Hancock during a game in Cairo in early March.

The Cairo Syrupmakers defeated Crisp County, 11-2, Friday night in Cordele behind another dazzling performance from starter Emerson Hancock.

“He was dominant,” Cairo head coach Ron Best said. “I was just cheering him. It was pretty.”

The junior pitched five innings allowing zero runs and striking out 10.

The Syrupmakers loaded the bases in the first, but missed early opportunities to get on the board.

Crisp errors and timely hits combined in the fourth to surge the team to victory. Cage Cox, Harley Ponder and Sylas Bell all had two hits each for the Syrupmakers, who made their first appearance in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class AAAA baseball rankings this week. The team is at No. 6 with an 11-0 overall record, including 6-0 in Region 1-AAAA.
