The Alabama Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that beleaguered Texas-based creamery could resume sales of ice cream churned out at its Sylacauga, Alabama facility.

The Alabama Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that the beleaguered Texas-based creamery could resume sales of ice cream churned out at its Sylacauga, Alabama facility.

Shortly after, Blue Bell confirmed the news with a tweet: “We’re busy at our Sylacauga, AL, facility crankin’ out ice cream and building inventory.

In April, Blue Bell promised a complete overhaul of its sanitation practices after issuing a nationwide recall of every single flavor of ice cream, frozen yogurt, and sherbet it makes due to a listeria contamination that was linked to three deaths in Kansas.

According to Ron Dawsey, Director of the Alabama Department of Public Health’s Division of Food, Milk and Lodging, it’s a promise the company has made good on.

Dawsey said the Sylacauga facility now meets all of the department’s health standards.

Though Blue Bell has yet to issue a firm date for when it will restart distribution, grocery stores appear ready to welcome the iconic round cartons with open arms and eager shelves.

After Wednesday’s announcement, Gary Huddleston, a Public Affairs spokesman for Kroger, told a Texas NBC affiliate “As soon as we know, we’ll be making room.”
