THOMASVILLE — When Jacqueline Varnedoe gets a call, she doesn’t hesitate to answer it. That’s the reasoning behind Open the Door to My Presence, her third book on spiritual matters.
“When you are a Christian and you feel like the Lord is nudging you to do something, you do it regardless,” Varnedoe said. “You do it in obedience, and that’s why this book was written.”
Varnedoe’s first works, Joy Carriers and Come Walk with Me, received positive reviews. Her latest got a thumbs up from her grandson, who said, “It’s for everybody.”
“I wrote (Open the Door to My Presence) in the first person like the Lord is speaking to you,” Varnedoe said. “So many people don’t know the Lord wants to speak to us. I wanted it to be personal so people could grab ahold of it.”
Varnedoe’s latest book, which she said was the most difficult to write, begins with Adam and Eve, and continues through the experience of salvation.
“In the world we live in today, you have to have more than Sunday morning Christianity. I hope this book will be an encouragement,” she said. “I want people to understand there really is a deep relationship. When you go into prayer, the Lord really is there and He wants to speak to you.
“Learn to listen.”
Varnedoe said her life changed forever as soon as she accepted Jesus as her Savior.
“I just so desire to be a small part to help other people grab ahold of how wonderful He is and what a joy He can be to us,” she said. “Even in the midst of trials and tribulations, there is joy in Him.”
Open the Door to My Presence is available at Ponder’s and Rayann’s.
