THOMASVILLE — The former Thomas County Central High School band director is in the Thomas County Jail after warrants were issued for his arrest in Brewton, Ala.
Jeffrey Lance Gainous, 32, 60 23rd St. N.W., Cairo, previously was band director at a school in Brewton.
Warrants were issued Tuesday in Brewton for his arrest.
“Apparently, while he was over there, he had some inappropriate sexual contact with students or a student,” said Lt. Tim Watkins, Thomas County Sheriff’s Office chief investigator.
Gainous was questioned here Wednesday by Brewton police, and taken into custody. He has waived extradition and will be transported to Brewton to face charges.
“(Mr.) Gainous’ employment relationship with the Thomas County School District has ended. He submitted a letter of resignation Wednesday evening,” said Dr. Dusty Kornegay, Thomas County Schools superintendent.
