When a man entered an Archbold Urgent Care Center restroom Thursday afternoon and remained for an extended length of time, employees who approached the situation were met with a bomb threat.

The man told employees he planned to blow up the 2705 A E. Pinetree Blvd. facility.

Police — uniformed officers and criminal investigations division detectives — responded at 2:38 p.m.

“At that time, he was barricaded in a restroom,” Lt. Eric Hampton, TPD public information officer, said at the scene.

Based on the man’s bomb-related comment, Urgent Care management evacuated the building.

The suspect, Michael Sharpe, 55, was confronted by police and arrested. An officer at the scene said Sharpe is homeless. Thomas County Jail records show a 312 Magnolia St. address.

“He was taken into custody without incident,” said Hampton. Sharpe is charged with disorderly conduct.

After the arrest, police continued to search the building for anything that could harm Urgent Care patients or employees.

An Archbold official at the scene referred questions to police.

Hampton said Sharpe has been arrested on numerous occasions for panhandling and public drunkenness.

Detective Scott Newberry said Sharpe yelled from the restroom that he had a bomb.

The detective recalled an incident of several years ago when Sharpe walked by a couple dining at a concrete table outside a South Broad Street business.

“He walked by and spit on them,” Newberry said. Sharpe broke a concrete table in the incident and was charged with a felony.

“We’ll ban him from all Archbold property if that’s what they want to do,” Newberry said Thursday afternoon at the Urgent Care scene.
