Services for Fredrick Leroy Clayton, 42, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., April 19, 2014, at First Baptist Church, 210 N. Broad St. Elder Johnny E. Randolph and the Rev. Dr. Artis Johnson will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers are Shedrick Carter, Shedrick Cromarite, Bernard Parker, Ricky Stevens, Jessie Clayton, Marcus Williams, Johnny Crawford Jr. and Soloman Hart. Mr. Clayton died April 11. Born March 8, 1972, in Bartow, Fla., he was the son of Leroy and Barbara Clayton. He was married to Erica Williams of Thomasville. He attended and graduated from Thomasville City Schools and Nashville Auto Diesel College and Thomas Technical College. He became a veterinary technician and worked for Clanton, Malphus, Hodges Veterinary Animal Hospital in Thomasville for more than 20 years. He was a member of St. Phillip Primitive Baptist Church and an active member of Joppa Lodge No. 43. He had been a member in Stone Square Chapter No. 25 and St. Phillip’s Consistory No. 34. In his church, he played an active part in the Youth Department and the Bible study he joined and became president of the Ushers Board and served on the Trustee Board. He currently served as usher, youth director, church school superintendent, deacons board as chairman, member of Old West Florida Primitive Baptist Association and Florida State Primitive Baptist Convention. Survivors include his wife, Erica Williams Clayton; a son, Fredrick L. Clayton Jr.; daughter, Kierra S. Clayton; stepdaughter, Briana S. Bowdry; granddaughter, Kaylen G. Clayton; his parents, Leroy and Barbara Clayton all of Thomasville; a sister, Renea D. Thomas of Fort Pierce, Fla.; a brother, Kendall D. Clayton of Thomasville; mother-in-law, Jennifer (Phillip) Pride; father-in-law, Flem (Roxanne) Williams of Thomasville; great-aunts, Pearl Cotton of Rochester, N.Y.; Marion Randolph of Tallahassee, Fla., Barbara J. Clayton of Alabama, Dorothy Clayton of Hawaii, Bessie Anthony of Quincy, Fla.; great-uncles, Anderson Clayton, Albert Clayton, Amos Clayton, Robert Clayton; 12 aunts; special aunts are Shirley (Roosevelt) Brooks of Rochester, N.Y., Cynthia (Duncan) Benman of Buffalo, N.Y., Eula (Paul) Fedd, Betty Wilson of Thomasville; six uncles; a niece, Stanasia McKinzey, Fort Pierce, Fla.; a special cousin (like a sister) Mavis Brown Staley; god brother, James Davis; god sister, Davette Johnson; god daughter, JaMiracle James; six brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; along with numerous cousins, in-laws, the staff of Clanton, Malphus, Hodges Veterinary Hospital and loving friends. The viewing is from noon to 8 p.m., today at the funeral home and from 9:30 a.m. until the funeral hour on Saturday at the church with no viewing after the eulogy.
