Group to present play this weekend
The Syrup City Players, Cairo’s community theater group, is presenting its first “Theater in the Park” show on Friday and Saturday at the Pavillion of Davis Park in Cairo.
Pat Orr will be directed J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The play is an adaption of the famous book and will feature more than 30 young people from Grady and Thomas counties. Tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for students and seniors when purchased in advance at Miss Myrts or Center Drugs and all tickets will be $12 the night of the shows.
There is no seating at Davis Park, so all those attending should bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Providence Baptist concert
The Providence Baptist Church will be hosting the Sammy Glass Family in concert this Sunday at 6 p.m.
This well-known gospel group has many talented musicians who perform in concert around the U.S. A love offering will be received.
Annual Mills reunion Saturday
The annual Mills family reunion will be held on Saturday at Jack’s Camp House.
The descendants of Thomas and Sarah Mills are reminded to attend and bring a covered dish that will complement fish.

WMS discount cards on sale
The Washington Middle School PTO is currently selling discount cards to raise money for programs to provide incentives for students, academic achievement, to reward exemplary behavior and provide tokens of appreciation to teachers.
The cards, which featured discount to many of Grady County’s finest businesses, are $5 each and may be purchased from WMS studens or at the Washington Middle School Office.
Poppell reunion is Saturday
The annual Poppell family reunion will be held on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Havana Golf and Country Club.
Remember to bring your covered dish and plan to attend.
1983 class to hold reunion
The Cairo High School Class of 1983 will be celebrating its 30th class reunion on Oct. 19 at the Cairo Woman’s Club.
The cost is $30 per person and includes dinner.

Pink Ladies to hold cancer walk
The Pink Ladies of the Faith Temple Church in Cairo will be sponsoring a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.
The opening ceremony will be held at Holder Park and all people who are involved in the breast cancer battle, have survived breast cancer or lost someone to breast cancer are asked to participate in the event which will start at 8:30 a.m.
Hospice to offer day camps
Hospice of Southwest Georgia will be sponsoring a bereavement program called Camp Heal in Thomasville and Bainbridge this fall.
The camp is designed to help young people with healing and encouragement after the loss of a loved one and includes art, music, crafts, recreation, horseback riding and more.
The Thomasville camp will be held at Camp Piney Woods on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Bainbridge event will be at the Kirbo Center at Bainbridge College on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Tabernacle Baptist revival
Tabernacle Baptist Church, located at 3224 Hwy. 84 East in Cairo, will be having an old fashioned revival now through Thursday.
The services for Sunday will be at 6 p.m. with dinner on the grounds following the morning service.
The revival services will begin at 7.
Brother Duane Earwood will be the guest evangelist.
Christmas Parade registration starts
The Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce has begun taking registration for this year’s Cairo Christmas Parade which will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5 in Downtown Cairo.
Applications for the parade are available at the Chamber of Commerce and are due no later than Nov. 8. Call 377-3663 for more information.
SWGTC to hold golf tourney
Southwest Georgia Technical College of Grady County will be sponsoring its sixth annual golf tournament to help raise money for scholarships for Grady County students on Thursday, Oct. 17.T
The four-person scramble will begin with lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. There will be prizes for the top four teams plus prizes for “Closest to the Pin,” “Longest Drive,” etc.
All proceeds from the tournament will benefit local students from Grady County who attend SWGTC.

Veterans to hold monthly meeting
All area veterans are reminded that the American Legion Post No. 122 meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Cairo Masonic Lodge located behind the courthouse. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all veterans.
