Zebulon events

The Zebulon Theater in Cairo is currently raising money for the conversion to digital projection and will have two fundraising events this week. Today at 7 p.m., there will be a gospel concert featuring the contemporary Christian groups, Redirected and Atonement.  Tickets cost $6.

On Saturday, there will be a live comedy show and dinner at the Zebulon featuring Charlie Hutchins.  Dinner will be served buffet style at the Cairo City Grill at 6 p.m., followed by the comedy show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the dinner and show cost $25 each or $40 per couple, or you may purchase tickets to the comedy show only for $15.

 

‘The Hobbit’

The Syrup City Players, Cairo’s community theater group, will be presenting their first annual ‘Theater in the Park’ show on Oct. 4-5 at the Pavillion of Davis Park in Cairo.

Pat Orr will be directing J.R.R. Tolkien’s “The Hobbit” beginning at 7:30 p.m. each day. The play is an adaption of the famous book and will feature more than 30 young people from Grady and Thomas counties.

Tickets cost $12 for adults and $8 for students/seniors when purchased in advance at Miss Myrts or Center Drugs. all tickets will cost $12 the night of the shows. There is no seating at Davis Park, so all those attending should bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Class reunion

The Cairo High School Class of 1983 will be celebrating its 30th class reunion on Oct. 19th at the Cairo Woman’s Club. The cost is $30 per person and includes dinner.

Gainey reunion

The descendants of Tomsil Maxwell and Robert Heywood Gainey are reminded that the Gainey Family Reunion will be held this Saturday at the Reno Community Center. Everyone is invited to attend and bring a picnic lunch.

 

Pink Ladies

The Pink Ladies of the Faith Temple Church in Cairo will be sponsoring a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk on Oct. 5 at 8:30 a.m. 

The opening ceremony will be held at Holder Park and all people who are involved in the breast cancer battle, have survived breast cancer or lost someone to breast cancer are asked to participate in the event, which will start at 8:30 a.m.

 

Revival

Tabernacle Baptist Church, located at 3224 Highway 84 East in Cairo, will be having an 0ld-fashioned revival Sunday through Oct. 3.

The services for Sunday will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Dinner on the grounds set slated following the morning service. The revival services will begin Monday-Thursday at 7 p.m. 

Brother Duane Earwood will be the guest evangelist.

 

Parade

Although it is more than two months away, the Cairo-Grady County Chamber of Commerce has begun taking registration for this year’s Cairo Christmas Parade, which will be held on Dec. 5th in Downtown Cairo. 

Applications for the parade are available at the Chamber of Commerce and are due no later than Nov. 8.

Hospice camp

Hospice of Southwest Georgia will be sponsoring a bereavement program called Camp Heal in Thomasville and Bainbridge this fall. The camp is designed to help young people with healing and encouragement after the loss of a loved one and includes art, music, crafts, recreation, horseback riding and more.

The Thomasville camp will be held at Camp Piney Woods on Oct. 19 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and the Bainbridge event will be at the Kirbo Center at Bainbridge College on Nov. 9 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Golf tourney

Southwest Georgia Technical College of Grady County will be sponsoring its 6th Annual Golf Tournament to help raise money for scholarships for Grady County students on Oct. 17.

The four -erson scramble will begin with lunch at noon and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. There will be prizes for the top four teams plus prizes for “Closest to the Pin,” “Longest Drive,” etc.

All proceeds from the tournament will benefit local students from Grady County who attend SWGTC.

Legion reminder

All area veterans are reminded that the American Legion Post #122 meets the first Tuesday of each month at the Cairo Masonic Lodge located behind the courthouse.  The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. and is open to all veterans.

 

NAACP banquet

The Grady County NAACP will be having its annual Freedom Fund Banquet on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Grady Senior Center.

Fundraiser

Thomas University invites everyone to the Wild Wild West Saloon & Gambling Room, a scholarship fundraising event to be held at the Grady Cultural Center on Oct. 19  at 6:30 p.m. The night will feature live entertainment, food and drink, and gaming tables with all proceeds benefiting scholarships for Grady County students.
