A B-17 Flying Fortress bomber from World War II will land at Thomasville Regional Airport Monday morning.

 “This B-17 is restored in the colors and markings of the famous Memphis Belle, the first American bomber to complete 25 missions in the European Theater of War,” said Mike Woodham, airport manager.

The plane, the Memphis Belle, is expected to land at the airport about 9 a.m. It will make a couple of short flights and depart at noon.

There is no charge to view the plane, and the event is open to the public.

Woodham said an agreement was reached with the Liberty Foundation, an historical organization that restores World War II vintage airplanes to flying condition, to bring the plane to Thomasville.

“To our knowledge, no B-17 has graced the surface of our airport since the Army Air Field days in World War II,” Woodham said.
