James Lee “June” Smith

Services for James Lee “June” Smith, 59, of Thomasville were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at St. Luke C. M. E. Church in Thomasville.  Elder James Knolton will officiate services, Rev. Anthony Quinn Choice, Pastor.  Interment will follow at Peaceful Rest Cemetery with Walter Guyton, Jessie Larkins, William Ponder, Eddie Coleman, Lynzie Battle and Henry King serving as pallbearers.  Mr. Smith is the son of the late Robert Lee Smith and Lucille Brown Smith.  He was a graduate of Magnolia High School Class of 1971.  Mr. Smith and the former Ms. Vera Mae Thomas would create a union in Thomasville that would last until the time of his passing.  He was lifetime resident of Thomasville and departed this life on Sunday, August 19, 2012 at Archbold Memorial Hospital.  Survivors to cherish his memory include his wife Vera M. Smith of Thomasville; daughters LaShonda R. Thomas of Thomasville and Shareeda M. Hill of Atlanta; son Robert Jamar Woods of San Diego, CA; grandchildren Darrien Fleno, Dante’s Hampton, Emonee Thomas and Gabriel Elijah Woods; sisters Lillie Mae Minter (Rufus) of Albany; Vera Jackson (James) of Thomasville; Carolyn Dorn (Larry), Annie Ruth Conage (Curtis), Regina McLendon (Riley), Linda Davis, Linda Smith, Helen Brown, Marion Cochran and Geraldine Mitchell all of Meigs; brothers Lewis Brooks of Meigs and Glen Smith (Lillie) of Moultrie and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.  He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Lee Smith, Jr.  There was a family hour on Friday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. There was a public viewing from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.  The body did lie instate at the church from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour with no viewing following the eulogy. — Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home
