The Southwest Georgia Technical College (SWGTC) Foundation recently received a donation from AT&T.

They have long been a supporter of technical education and have shown that support through numerous donations to the Foundation over the years. On Monday, Courtney Brinson, AT&T representative, presented SWGTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth with the donation to the college’s foundation.

“AT&T recognizes the importance of technical education to our community and to the work force,” said Brinson.

“AT&T is committed to advancing education, strengthening communities and improving lives. Supporting education has been a major focus for AT&T for more than a century, and education is our key philanthropy focus. We are driven to help students succeed — in school, in the workplace and in life. We are proud to be able to make this donation to SWGTC and commend them for the great job they do in serving this area’s education and career training needs.”

These funds will be spent on scholarships to reward students for academic achievement. They will also provide financial support to students who need assistance with tuition, books, and other fees. By offering more scholarships for students, the foundation and SWGTC hopes to improve the job skills, technical training, and educational level of those citizens that are most in need of career training.

“Support from community partners like AT&T is becoming increasingly more critical for our students. Changes to the HOPE Scholarship have forced many students to seek additional assistance from the Southwest Georgia Technical College Foundation, assistance we would not be able to provide without generous donations from community partners.” said Amy Maison, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement and Marketing.

As one of SWGTC’s loyal contributors, AT&T is recognized on the College’s Donor Wall, which highlights the cumulative and annual donations of all supporters of the SWGTC Foundation.

“Without the support of our community partners such as AT&T and Mr. Courtney Brinson, we would have difficulty providing the services that are so important to both our students and our community,” said Dr. Wentworth, SWGTC President.

Incorporated in 1991, the foundation is a non-profit corporation who strives to promote the cause of higher education and expand educational opportunities to the students of SWGTC. The foundation endeavors to create scholarships and endowments, assist in the financing of capital improvements, and promote programs that provide the students of South Georgia with state-of-the-art equipment and facilities.

Summer semester will begin May 21.

SWGTC is a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia.
