Junior Beta Club building character

MacIntyre Park Middle School and Scholars Academy students achieving an average of 90 or better were honored at the Junior Beta Club induction for their achievements and character.

The evening began with special music provided by Kara Meng, Elin Hahn and Ali Ross — three Scholars Academy members of the Rose City Strings Project school orchestra. The evening’s opening devotional was provided by Rebecca Jane White, chaplain. MPMS/Scholars Academy Junior Beta Club President Jacob Rieber addressed the audience with the first of nine short, inspirational speeches on the character traits expected of Junior Beta Club members.

Paige Knuckles spoke about scholarship; Sharon Autry, secretary, spoke about vision; Mason Hodge spoke about sincerity; Cameren Rogers, vice president, spoke about honesty; Keldren Reddick spoke about responsibility; Kylie Marsh spoke about enthusiasm; Aaron Bellamy spoke about achievement; and Amelia DuBose spoke about tolerance.    

Thomas Rinehart, club sponsor, then led the candidates for membership/new inductees in the Beta Club pledge. Hunnewell, Mary Margaret Ingalls, Paige R. Knuckles, Kylie B. Marsh, Zombria Morrow, Dalanie M. Nix, James R. Ouzts, Andrea M. Parker, Alexander L. Peralta, Keldren J. Reddick, William M. Reynolds, Jacob R. Rieber, Cameren E. Rogers, David M. Souders, Lindsay J. Stephens, Zenobia N. Turner, Rebecca J. White and Colton W. Williamson.

The Challenge Speaker of the night was senior academic leader Shamara Battle, who spoke of dedication and sacrifice involved in reaching one’s goals.  Shamara also stressed the importance of giving to others. 

Dr. Dale Graham, Scholars Academy director, also presented the new members with her personal challenge for the student to strive for tolerance among their peers, to work to find ways to help others, and to continue the academic dedication they have already put in place for their future. MacIntyre Park Middle School Principal Bill Settle closed the evening with congratulations to all of the academic achievers.

 National Honor Society induction of high school members occured Monday at 7 p.m. in the MacIntyre Park Auditorium.
