SWGTC Economic Development to offer Insurance Courses
Published 4:17 pm Tuesday, September 20, 2011
From Oct. 17 to 21, Southwest Georgia Technical College’s Economic Development department will be offering two insurance courses to those interested. The first class is a Property and Casualty Agent and Claims Adjuster course. This course is designed to provide the agent or claims adjuster licensing candidate with the knowledge and test taking skills to successfully pass the state licensing exam. R.S. Thomas Training Associates, Inc., the company teaching these programs, offers a guarantee that is unmatched by others in the industry. They offer a guarantee that those taking this course will pass the licensing exam on the first try.
The individual who wants to be an insurance agent or claims adjuster has to attend the required training then pass the state exam; these courses prepare them by developing the skills to succeed. The classes cover the concepts and specifics on the state exams plus study, learning and examination techniques. The licensing candidate will be prepared to enter the industry with more value and knowledge than another potential employee candidate which will give them an edge in this competitive market and economy. This class is a 40-hour class that costs $450.
The second class being offer is a limited sub-agent property and casualty/life, accident and sickness course. This course is designed for the agency employee that works on behalf of the agent. If a person completes applications, handles change requests, renewals, writes receipts, collects premiums, gives quotes, discusses coverage and is not licensed, they are in violation of the law and can be fined, along with their employer. To meet compliance in the personal lines area for both P and C and Life A and S, attend the course. No state exam is required. This class is a 20-hour class and will cost $250.
“We are very excited to have scheduled certified instructors from R. S. Thomas Training Associates Inc., of Atlanta, Georgia here at Southwest Georgia Technical College to teach insurance pre-licensing courses. Other technical colleges have been pleased with R. S. Thomas and we believe these classes will be an opportunity for anyone who might be interested in entering the insurance business. Also, while many people take this course on-line but we believe there are others who would prefer a classroom environment,” Gary Pitts, Vice President of Economic Development at SWGTC.
