James Frederick ‘Buster’ Benton III

Services for James Frederick “Buster” Benton III, 58, of Thomasville, are at 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 31, 2009, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church in Monticello, Ga. The Rev. Dr. John Brown will officiate and interment is in West View Cemetery. Pallbearers are Bill Felts, Will Felts, Boone Felts, Bartlett Benton, Chris Laniosz, Bob Jordan, Dan Jordan, Joseph Gasses, Thurman Willis, Jimmy Wood, Jimmy Ezell, Jonathan Jordan, Roger Huff, Stan Ward, Bob Luckie, Mickey Warren, and Ed Lowe. Mr. Benton died Tuesday, Dec. 29, at Archbold Medical Center in Thomasville. “Buster” Benton grew up in Monticello and was a member of the Monticello First United Methodist Church. He graduated from Monticello High School and received his BBA degree from The University of Georgia. Following military service he earned his master’s degree from Texas Christian University. During the Viet Nam conflict he served in the United States Air Force as a First Lieutenant, in Taiwan and Viet Nam. He was a certified public accountant and a stockbroker. He loved to travel and lived in many countries and states including the Philippines; Guam; Boca Raton, Fla.; Colorado; and Honolulu, Hawaii. He moved to Thomasville, Ga. where he owned and operated the Thomasville Auto Sales Dealership. Buster loved life and lived it to the fullest, always making friends wherever he resided. He loved his son and was proud of his creativity and accomplishments. He loved his nephews and niece and thoroughly enjoyed watching their sporting events. His father, James Frederick Benton Jr., preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Laree Malone Benton of Highlands, N.C.; sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca (Becky) Benton Felts and William Felts of Thomasville; brother and sister-in-law, Eugene (Gene) Malone Benton and Christie Benton of Monroe; son, Chris Laniosz of San Francisco, Calif.; and nephews and niece, Will Felts, Boone Felts, Amelia Benton, and Bartlett Benton.
