Services for Hiram Wallace (Squirrel) Thompson, 66, Thomasville, are at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 4, 2009, at First Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member. The Rev. Dr. I.L. Mullins will officiate and interment is in Peaceful Rest Cemetery. Pallbearers are deacons of First Missionary Baptist Church. Mr. Thompson died March 31 at his residence. Born Nov. 30, 1942, in Thomas County, he was a son of the late Dorsey and Doris McCall Thompson. He was married to Carolyn “Judy” Smith Thompson who preceded him in death. He was a 1960 graduate of Douglass High School. At his church, he served on the Deacon Board, Progressive Usher Board, Guiding Light Club and served as church custodian. His recent and past affiliations include Men About Town, Ebenezer Lodge 956, former Prince Hall Mason S.P. Jones No. 118 and active member of the Douglass High School Alumni. He was a former member of SNIC fighting for civil rights. He was owner and operator of Thompson and Thompson Bar-B-Que and Catering Service and owner of Thompson Landscape Services.
