Vehicular-homicide indictment returned

THOMASVILLE — A Georgia State Patrol (GSP) probe shows a man thought to be a passenger in a fatal 2007 wreck was the driver.

The man, Victor Manning, 23, of Thomasville, has been indicted by a Thomas County grand jury on charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence, driving while license suspended, speeding, reckless driving and failure to maintain lane.

The driver’s identity was established by the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) housed at Post 31 GSP in Valdosta, Trooper First Class William Cope, a SCRT member, said Thursday.

James Napier, 32, of Monticello, Fla., died after a pickup truck he was in crashed on Coffee Road in Thomas County a little after 2 a.m. Feb. 25, 2007.

Napier was ejected, along with Manning and a Monticello, Fla., man. Manning and the Florida resident were seriously injured and hospitalized in Thomasville.

The indictment returned Thursday on Manning shows the 2006 Ford F-150 he allegedly was driving was traveling 74 to 84 miles per hour in a 55 mph zone.

Other indictments returned are:

• William Rawls — Terroristic threats.

• Bray Staller — Aggravated stalking, simple battery (family violence).

• Clifton B. Williams — Cruelty to children, reckless conduct, battery (family violence).

• Johnny L. Samuel — Two counts terroristic threats and acts, obstruction of officer.

• Rufus L. Waters — Burglary.

• Angela Miller Thomas — Burglary.

• Mark Payne — Child molestation, sexual battery.

• Demetrius Williams — Child molestation.

• Dennis Sparrow — Armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, obstruction of officer, possession of firearm by a convicted felon.

• Darius K. Mitchell — Robbery by sudden snatching.

• Johnny L. Samuel Jr. — Robbery by sudden snatching.

• Phillip B. Fucchini — Terroristic threats.

• Javaris Brown — Entering an automobile.

• Janette Mickens — Aggravated battery.

• Michael L. Miller — Robbery.

• Curtis W. Johnson — Cruelty to a person 65 or older, two counts abuse, neglect or exploitation of disabled adult or elder person.

• Julian K. Joiner — Child molestation, battery, obstruction.

• Reyes Castillo — Aggravated battery, aggravated assault.

• Ricky D. Reynolds — Burglary.

• Gregory Blackburn — Theft by taking.

• Henry L. Williamson Jr. — Burglary, theft by taking.

• Lathan M. Vanover — Burglary, theft by taking.

• Gregory L. Hatcher — Carrying weapons within certain school areas, possession of alcohol on school grounds.

• Angel Smith — Carrying weapons within certain school areas.

• Greg D. Hurst — Insurance fraud.

• Stephen Hyssop — Child molestation.

• Tommy L. Meaker — Two counts aggravated stalking, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, two counts obstruction of officer, five counts disregarding traffic control device, driving without license, three counts failure to stop at stop sign.

• Kitty M. Griner — Burglary.

• Floyd A. Calhoun — Burglary.

• Josh M. Bernabe — Burglary, 12 counts first-degree forgery.
