Monroe Crossing back by popular demand

THOMASVILLE — A bluegrass band from Minnesota felt right at home in Thomasville last year — so much so that its is coming back for more local hospitality.

Monroe Crossing, a 5-member group that plays the kind of music its name implies, is set to perform at the Thomasville Municipal Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

“They’re coming back by popular demand,” said Len Robinson, who booked the rapidly ascending group.

Monroe Crossing, currently on a concert cruise in The Cayman Islands, features an eclectic mix of musicians. Mark Anderson (bass), Benji Flaming (banjo), Matt Thompson (mandolin), Lisa Fuglie (lead vocals) and Art Blackburn (guitar) have combined to play just about every kind of music imaginable. They all love bluegrass, however.

Last year, Monroe Crossing’s version of “Fox on the Run” brought the house down. The band also peppers its performances with self-deprecating humor.

Bluegrass fans will recognize most of the songs Monroe Crossing plays, but the group has also penned quite a few original tunes.

Tickets cost $10. All seats are reserved. Call 229-225-1063 for more information.

The auditorium is at 44 E. Jackson St.
