Graveside services for Evelyn Louise Rigsby McDaniel are at 10 a.m., Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Fourth Street, Thomasville. The Rev. Dr. Milton Gardner will officiate. Mrs. McDaniel died Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Archbold Memorial Hospital surrounded by loving family and holding her husband LD McDaniel’s hand. Born near Atlanta, she was the daughter of the late Rhoda Mae Shiver Rigsby and John L. Rigsby. She and her sister Johnnie spent many of their formative years in Thomasville. She met LD McDaniel there and they were married June 22, 1948, in Thomasville at Dawson Street Baptist Church. She and LD were lifelong members at First Baptist Church where she was a much loved volunteer in the nursery for many years. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, LD McDaniel; son, Gary David (wife Lynn); grandson, Matthew David McDaniel all of Thomasville; granddaughters, Jamie Stephens with great-granddaughter Laura Lynn and Casey Fowler (husband, Heath). Louise was very close to her sister Johnnie, who preceded her in death, and brother-in-law Robert Carlson, nieces Sharon Carlson Adams (husband Rich and sons Ryan and Travis), Cyndi Carlson all of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Christel Carlson (daughter Cyra) of Spokane, Wash. She was an operator at Southern Bell for 35 years retiring in 1979 and counted many of her co-workers among her friends. Louise and LD hosted many memorable family Thanksgivings at their country home where Louise enjoyed preparing a great feast. She gardened for many years and taught her nieces to love cooking and canning as well. No flowers are requested but donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 1818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, Ga. 31792. A celebration of her life follows the services from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Louise and LD’s home.
