THOMASVILLE — At its Wednesday meeting, the Archbold Medical Center Board of Trustees elected J. Perry Mustian, president of John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital, to also serve as president and CEO of Archbold Medical Center.
Archbold Medical Center is the parent organization of the entire Archbold system, including John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital; affiliate hospitals and nursing homes; the Archbold Foundation; and Archbold Health Services (Archbold Home Health, Hospice of Southwest Georgia, and the Archbold HomeCare store). Mustian will lead both the medical center and the hospital as they enter a period of growth in facilities and services.
“Perry Mustian has been an integral part of many of Archbold’s successes during the last decade,” said Robert W. Balfour, chairman of the Archbold Medical Center Board of Trustees. “He has demonstrated an excellent knowledge of what it takes to meet the highest healthcare standards, and has delivered these results throughout his career in our system. His experience and vision for Archbold’s future makes him the best candidate for our long-term success.”
Mustian, a native of Gainesville, Fla., grew up in Tallahassee, Fla., where his father was president of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for 25 years. In 2003, he was named senior vice president and chief operating officer at Archbold Memorial. Previously, he worked for more than three years as vice president responsible for Archbold’s affiliate network, which includes four community hospitals, four nursing homes and other facilities in Grady, Mitchell, Brooks, Early and Jefferson (Fla.) counties.
He recently was named a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE), the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders, a title held by only 5,400 of the society’s 30,000 members. The distinction reflects board certification in healthcare management, the society’s pinnacle of professional development. Mustian also completed The Advisory Board Company’s Academy Fellowship, an advanced curriculum designed to help hospital leaders address the most challenging healthcare issues. Mustian has also emerged as a healthcare leader in Georgia, currently serving on the boards of the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition, VHA Georgia, an alliance of not-for-profit hospitals in Georgia, and the Georgia Hospital Health Services board, a subsidiary of the Georgia Hospital Association.
“I’m deeply honored to be given this responsibility,” said Mustian. “Archbold’s future is bright, and I look forward to working with an outstanding group of employees and physicians during this exciting period of growth, technology and advances in medical care. We have much to be proud of, and I’ll give my best effort to ensure we remain focused on meeting the needs of our patients and community.”
As Mustian becomes only the third medical center president, he will shepherd Archbold’s ambitious $125-million master facility plan (the largest ever undertaken at Archbold). This planned growth strategy includes the North Tower, an eight-story addition to the hospital that provides new areas for the Emergency Department, Surgery, Intensive Care Unit and Medical/Surgical Nursing Unit. The plan also includes a new, larger oncology center and new dialysis facility, already under construction.
Mustian succeeds Ken Beverly, who retired in February after serving 34 years in the Archbold system.
