James Franklin Dollar

Services for James Franklin Dollar, 94, Pelham, are at 11 a.m., Friday, April 4, 2008, at Meigs Baptist Church in Meigs where he was a member. The Rev. Dennis Norman will officiate and interment is in Meigs Cemetery. Active pallbearers are Scott Humphries, Gene Swindle, Jason Johnson, Wayne Pierce, Lane Morrell and Harold Cook. Mr. Dollar died April 1 at his residence. Born Dec. 16, 1913, in Grady County, he was a son of the late Wesley James and Rilla May Johnson Dollar. In March of 1941, he married Martha “Trixie” Atkinson of Meigs. She was the daughter of Joseph Dixon and Martha Davis Atkinson of Meigs. He was employed by Hand Trading Company and with Gulf Corporation for four years. He became a farmer in Grady County. He was a deacon in Meigs Baptist Church for eight years, president of the brotherhood for four years and president of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class for 12 years. Survivors include grandchildren, James D. Dollar Jr. and wife, Amy, of Pelham, Kathryn Martha Grace Dollar Pierce and husband, Wayne of Quitman; great-grandchildren, Christian Lane Dollar of Pelham, Colby Wayne Pierce of Quitman, Wesley James Dollar of Pelham; and daughter-in-law, Anne Whaley Dollar of Thomasville. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Atkinson Dollar; a son, James Dixon Dollar Sr.; brothers, Van Dollar, Tom Dollar, Roy Dollar, Angus Dollar, Lawson Dollar, Hugh Dollar; sisters, Pearl Dollar, Willie Dollar and Claudie Dollar. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m., Friday at the church. — Jamerson-Braswell Funeral Home
