Glenda Brock Hinson

Memorial services for Glenda Brock Hinson are at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at First Baptist Church in Cairo, with Dr. Ronald McCaskill officiating. The family will receive friends after the service. Mrs. Hinson died Friday, May 4, 2007, at Emory Hospital in Atlanta after an extended illness. Born Feb. 13, 1947, in Cairo, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Ethel Lee Faircloth Brock. She moved to Atlanta from Cairo. A homemaker, Mrs. Hinson was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta. She was married Aug. 27, 1965, to C. Fred Hinson, who survives. In addition to her husband, an Atlanta resident, she is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Monica and Dan Connor, Suzanne and Keith Rabitsch; grandchildren, Mackenzie Rabitsch, Landry Rabitsch, Benton Rabitsch and Mitchell Connor, all of Suwannee; sisters, Joyce Wynn, Janet Sumner, Sara Green, and a brother, Edgar Brock, all of Cairo. The family requests no flowers. Sandy Itson Sanders

Services for Sandy Itson Sanders, 45, 1930 Old Ga. Highway 3, Lot 5, Pelham, are at 3 p.m. today, Sunday, May 6, 2007, at Pine Level Baptist Church in Grady County, with the Rev. Jim Weaver officiating. Interment is at the church cemetery. Active pallbearers are Johnny Williams, Ashley Brinkley, Jimmy Sanders, Brad Burke, David Burton and Joe Itson. Mrs. Sanders died Friday, May 4, 2007, at her residence. She was born Oct. 19, 1961, in Mitchell County, a daughter of Vernon Itson and Faye Jones Itson, who survive. She was married to Todd Sanders and was a member of Woodmen of the World. Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, Todd Sanders, Pelham; daughters, Savannah Sanders, Erika Engele and husband Dan, all of Pelham; a stepdaughter, Janet Sanders, Pelham; parents, Vernon and Faye Jones Itson, Pelham; four granddaughters; sisters, Tammy Brinkley and husband Ricky of Dawsonville, and Elizabeth Itson, Bainbridge; paternal grandmother, Martha Itson, Cotton. She was preceded in death by a sister, Candy Itson Burton. Frank Kelly Strickland

Frank Kelly Strickland, 77, died May 3, 2007, in Tallahassee, Fla., following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at Culley’s Meadowwood Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. on May 6, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Norma Thomas Strickland. He was born in Telogia, Fla., and his family moved to Marianna, Fla., while he was still a little boy. He attended high school in Marianna and graduated from Florida State University with a BS in management in 1953. After serving two years in the army during the Korean War, he returned to Tallahassee, where he was employed by the Florida Department of Transportation. He served in a number of positions, including executive secretary of the Florida State Road Board. He retired in 1985, from the position of Director of Purchasing for the Department of Transportation. He had always been an avid hunter and fisherman, but after his retirement he was more interested in observing wildlife and engaging in his new hobby, hybridizing and raising native azaleas. He traveled all over the Southeast to find plants he wanted to work with. He also enjoyed spending time with his family at their cabin in Franklin, N.C. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church since 1961. He served on a number of committees and was formerly president of the Methodist Men. In addition to his wife, survivors include his daughter Pam Strickland of Tallahassee, son Frank Strickland of Marianna, sister Joan Day (and husband James) of Thomasville, Ga., brother Ken Strickland (and wife Dedra) from Summerville, Ga., three nephews, Ben Gardner of Cumberland, Md., Andrew Strickland and Daniel Strickland of Chattanooga, Tenn., cousins William Stokes of Tallahassee, Jean Thompson of Telogia, Bertha Sykes and Merline Settles of Ocala, Fla., and many wonderful and loyal friends.
