Trim the trees

“Can someone please cut the trees back at the stop sign of West Golden Road and Carpenter Road.”

Walking the walk

“To the person who wrote in Saturday’s paper about why churches aren’t teaching Jesus Christ or Revelations and about the Lake of Fire, if you want to hear all about that, you go to Fair Haven Primitive Baptist Church located on East 82 next to the Woodmen of the World building. You will hear that and much more. Wonderful sermons. Now they don’t preach this every day, but you go. You will hear it and you will love it and you will love the people. They are a great, loving church. … These people do not just talk the talk, they walk the walk.”

Send in the Russians

“Since our troops are tied down in Iraq and Afghanistan, I think we should get the U.N. and our leaders to let Russia send their troops into Lebanon. God knows they need the help.”

Priorities

“To the writer of ‘Do something’ about the teenagers cruising the mall in Tifton, I want to say that I have. We shop at the Albany Mall. Dougherty County gets our money so that we can avoid the teen-agers. What is the top priority in Tift County, teen-agers or county revenue.”

Community friendly

“Tifton and Tift County needs a radio station that is community friendly — one that gives us the local news, one that tells us what is going on around and about the community and one that is friendly to the community. The one we have now is not friendly to the community. I turned it to (one station) the night of the election and there was a darn baseball game going on.”

Substation next?

“I am calling about the ‘Slow down’ rant someone had put in the paper. We see where they have a new fire department in Brookfield. Why can’t they put a little substation or police department or something like that out here where we can have some law enforcement out here in Brookfield at all times instead of maybe once a week? Maybe that would slow down some of the traffic and the children riding motorcycles and four wheelers on the main road and the speeding …”

Your choice

“I do enjoy Olive Garden, Target, Chili’s, Dillards and more. You choose to live in a small town because of the small-town culture. If you want all of that…move to Macon or Atlanta. Big stores only survive in cities with enough economy to support their business. Tifton is a small town and our ‘city fathers’ have more to worry about than upscale restaurant recruiting. Look at all that has already closed here.”

On the job

“Do you think teachers only work 10 months out of the year? Go drive by the schools and see how many cars are in the parking lots. Most of the teachers have already been busy getting things ready for the next school year. Teaching is one of the most demanding and rewarding professions and I respect Tifton’s teachers. Thank you for teaching our kids!”
